Views on the developments

Post  jonnyxyz on Wed Sep 30, 2009 12:31 pm

Its clear that the re-generation of New Brighton draws very different reactions from certain sectors of the community, but I'm very excited about the injection of funding as I would love to see New Brighton returned to its former glory.

What concerns/views does everyone else have about the current plans?

I would really like to see if the modernity of the plans transfers into New Brighton. It's an old historic town and I'm not sure whether the new style of building and structure will suit it so well.

Neptune have done well with the floral re-development, I just have doubts about this one.

If the new buildings can fit in with the look and feel of the place, then I dont see how they can be causing any harm!

One thing I hope is that the traffic doesn't get too bad. It can already be a nightmare trying to drive on the front and get a parking space on a sunny saturday afternoon, nevermind there being a new supermarket. The front isnt built for so much traffic, and neither are the surrounding roads.

I agree with you about the traffic. Those little bricks they`ve used as a road surface are a waste of time, they already need refitting again.
There is some severe subsidence beneath the road surface, especially at the roundabout where the road keeps collapsing. I think it`s a sewer or storm drain. Every so often the road is closed while they patch it up again. Why not dig it up, reinforce it, then relay the surface.
Some time in the future I think they`ll make the whole length of road from Rowson Street to Victoria Street a pedestrian only area. Or maybe they could make it all one way, Rowson, prom, Victoria. That would ease the flow of traffic.
Anyway, time will tell Smile

Exactly what I was thinking! That tiny little roundabout sees so much traffic, including the buses, and Ive seen it caved in on numerous occassions. I fear that new attractions will only make it worse. I like your ideas about a possible one way system, that could actually work and help to reduce congestion.

Work is really getting under way now, the whole make-up of the front has changed. At least there is definately some action taking place.

I read in the paper this week about people getting angry that the Queen Vic building work has come to a grinding halt. Seems like one piece of New Brighton gets rebuilt whilst another stops! Heres hoping everything gets going together soon!

Demolished buildings in New Brighton

Post  Carl Leckey on Wed Aug 11, 2010 5:02 pm

Its sad about the Hotel Vic but what about the ugly gap where the Grand Hotel used to be? It was so crowded the other weekend the bowling alley was charging to park there. Why not make the Grand Hotel space a car park until someone decides what to do with it. It spoils the look of the place with those scruffy hoardings at least put some murals on them.
