New Brighton Attractions
Hi
Thank you "admin" for posting this new forum on your site, lets hope this addition will attract a lot of interest from visitors old and new alike. I, like many others, have fond memories of New Brighton and it's famous attractions. I remeber being told as a child that our claim to fame was that our Tower was bigger than Blackpool's. I will visit again when I have a little more time to tell of a couple of my particular memories. Thanks again "admin", keep up the good work.
cheers
Garry

Re: New Brighton Attractions
That sure is a classic claim to fame, "bigger than Blackpool Tower". I've heard it many times in the few years I've lived here. Coming here as a child I remember a great big slide I used to go on, one of those where you got a little mat to sit on and you would fly down at tremendous speed! Happy memories!

New Brighton Fair
I have inserted an article into the December edition of local New Brighton Walrus magazine (veiw a copy on this site) asking for people's memories of New Brighton past. It is early days, as the magazine is out this weekend (first week in December) but already there has been great interest. I am looking for people who have any stories about New Brighton, the Fair, Wilkies, the Pier, the Ferry and the railway that used to be the regular access to New Brighton. I remember years ago during the "skin head" era, when a train full of visiting "skin heads" was met by a complement of local police. I would imagine quite a few options were considered by the police of how to deal with this arrival, however the solution chosen must go down as a classic option. The police confiscated all the laces from the skin head's Doc Martin boots, having already informed all local shops to remove from sale all laces available to the public. To watch these scary looking youths wobbling around in boots with no laces was really funny removing the perceived threat that may have materialised. The visitors soon gave up and returned to the train.

New Brighton & Fair
Hi,
I have just joined the walrus forum and would like to say hello to all members.
Regarding new brighton I spent most of my younger days in the resort and in fact used to live in Virginia road so remember the heady days when Vicky road was full of shops selling souveners of all kinds to the thousands of summer visitors who came from most of the northern towns and not forgetting the thousands who came on the ferries from Liverpool, the fairgrounds were great especially the tower grounds it was so full of life also the sounds the smell the atmosphere of it all was pure magic, I worked weekends on the speedway cars at the bottom entrance of the tower grounds to suppliment my apprentice wages as a lot of local lads did and enjoyed every minute of it does anybody remember the York hotel in Vicky road how about Burt Tailors, Now you must remember Lill`s cafe for a cup of coffee and an egg batch. New brighton was a great place once let`s hope it will be again.
Regards dougC

Re: New Brighton Attractions
Brilliant to hear from you DougC.
It sounds like you had great times in New Brighton! Those summers full of enjoyment. Welcome to the forum, it's great to here your stories and memories.
There will soon be a picture gallery showing all the old photos from the old website due to the amount of requests we had to get them back up!
